American roulette is played on an American roulette wheel that contains 38 slots and each slot has its own number assigned to it. The numbers that form a roulette wheel are obvious from a diagram of an American roulette wheel. Check the Internet to find such a diagram. These numbers are 1-36, 00 and 0. The numbers on the wheel in American roulette alternate the pairs of odd numbers with the even numbered pairs. The numbers in American roulette also alternate between the colors red and black. The slots for both 0 as well as 00 are in the color green. In American roulette the dealer is known as a croupier and this individual spins the wheel in one direction only while at the same time rolling a ball that is small in size in the opposite direction. The ball spins around and eventually falls into one of the slots available.
The rules of American roulette revolve a great deal around the type of bets that are placed. These bets are either inside bets or outside bets. Inside bets consist of numbers that are straight up on the wheel or ones that straddle the line between one number and another. In this way you can choose a combination of different numbers. Outside bet are the bets that are made according to the boxes that are found surrounding each and every number. A roulette bet is different depending on whether it is on the inside or outside of the betting box. Inside bets can be straight, split, street, corner or sixline. A straight or straight up inside bet is a single number where the chip lies exactly in the middle of a square of a number. A split bet on the betting system is a bet placed on two adjoining number that are vertical or horizontal. A street bet is placed on three numbers that are to be found on a single line that is horizontal in nature. The chip in this case is placed on the edge of the left or right of the number that is found at the end of the line. The corner bet or square bet is simply a bet on four numbers that are to be found in a square layout such as 14-15 or 11-12. The chip needs to be placed where the horizontal and vertical lines intersect. The sixline bet is a bet that can be found on two adjoining streets with the chip being positioned at the juncture where the two intersect.
